Plagued with complaints of dirty blankets, the Indian Railways was forced to firm up an action plan to increase the frequency of washing blankets and replace the existing ones in a phased manner. The railways need about 3.90 lakh blankets daily for its AC passengers across the country.

Online financial services portal raises funds from SoftBank Group, its existing investors. Founded in 2008, Policybazaar currently accounts for nearly 25 per cent of India’s life cover, and over 7 per cent of India’s retail health insurance business. The online insurance platform competes with Sequoia Capital-backed BankBazaar, a new entrant Coverfox, which recently raised $22 million, besides Fairfax Financial Holdings-backed Digit Insurance, and start-up Acko, which raised $12 million from Amazon in May this year.

Female employees of Careem, a chauffeur car booking service, transport customers as they drive in the Saudi capital of Riyadh after the Dubai-based ride-hailing app, along with Uber, reacted to Saudi Arabia lifting last week a ban on women drivers. At least 2,000 women have signed up to get their Careem licenses since the proposal to lift the ban was announced last September. Uber also plans to introduce women drivers to their fleet later this year.

Chai Point expects its 2018-19 revenue growth to be a lot higher than the growth rates it clocked over the past two years, boosted by sales of its vending machines. The company opened its 100th store in the country in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar area on Friday, featuring a new menu and a new store design. It plans to open around 40 new stores during 2018-19, which will take its total store count to around 120-125.

Air India unveiled the revamped first class and business class, in Boeing aircrafts flying to international destinations, to woo high-end travellers and increase the occupancy to over 80%. The revamped premium class is called “MaharajahDirect”. Passengers travelling in the upgraded premium class will be provided with better upholstery, better nightwear, woolen blankets and travel kits, and ipads personal viewing. The passengers will also be treated to delicious gourmet food and region specific beverages — both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

The development comes as Zomato’s arch-rival Swiggy just a day ago announced a fresh funding of $210 million, the largest by an online food ordering startup. Zomato, which is present in 23 countries, earns revenues from advertising and food delivery. Zomato almost doubled its revenue to Rs 399 crore in the year ended 31 March 2017 and saw a drop in losses to Rs 389 crore from Rs 590 crore, a year ago. Currently, Zomato clocks about $13.4 million in revenues per month.
