The business interests of Kapil Sibal

Lawyer and Congress politician Kapil Sibal is seeking re-election from Chandni Chowk constituency in Delhi. His wife Promilaa controls Arshiya Exports Pvt. Ltd and Arihant Farm House Pvt. Ltd (these companies are into exports and meat processing, respectively) and Hacker Electronis India Pvt. Ltd (the nature of the company’s business is unclear).

Sibal said over the phone that his wife had been managing her businesses since before their marriage and that he did not have any role in her business affairs. “I am surprised. I have no knowledge if she has transferred some shares in my name,” Sibal said when queried on a 3.08% stake he holds in Hacker Electronis.

Over the next month and a half, while voters elect a new government for India, Mint will profile the business interests of prominent politicians using data from the corporate affairs ministry’s database.
