Claim: In the past decade, 150 million people have escaped poverty

Who: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi

Where: At a public rally in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, on 10 April

Check: There is no data on the past decade. The last consumption survey results relate to 2011-12, so the number of those below the poverty line in 2014 is not available. But according to the latest available data, in the seven years till 2011-12, 137.4 million people were pulled above the poverty line. It is likely that 13 million more have escaped poverty in the two years since, but it is equally likely that the economic slowdown has pushed some back into poverty.
