Amazon’s pre-GST sale will have gadget lovers excited
GST is expected to make electronics such as TVs and cameras expensive. Through Amazon’s pre-GST sales, sellers are trying to finish off their stock
With home appliances and consumer electronics set to become expensive after the roll out of GST (goods and services tax) from 1 July, online platforms have started offering discounts on them through “pre-GST” sales. Amazon.in has announced a pre-GST sale, offering discounts of up to 40% on TVs, speakers, headphones, and other home appliances such as ACs, refrigerators and washing machines.
GST will replace multiple taxes with a uniform tax structure divided into four tax slabs.
While smartphones and laptops will come under the smaller tax slab of 12%, electronics such as speakers and cameras will fall under the higher slab of 18%, and TVs under the 28% slab. This is likely to push their prices up.
