Samsung launches Galaxy S9 and S9 plus in India to counter Apple iPhone 8 and X

The Samsung’s Galaxy S9 will be available in a price range of Rs57,900 to Rs64,900, while the bigger variant S9 plus will be available in a range of Rs65,900 to Rs72,900

Samsung India Electronics Pvt Ltd on Tuesday launched its flagship mobile phones Galaxy S9 and S9 plus in India to take on Apple iPhone 8, 8 plus and X – with Samsung rewards and a host of other features. The company has collaborated with leading service providers such as Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone India Ltd and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd to offer lucrative deals on data and related services to customers.

Samsung Reward is a loyalty program of the company’s payment service application called Samsung Pay which was launched last year. With the introduction of Samsung Reward, users will be able to accumulate points when they spend, which can be redeemed later for attractive benefits.

“India has one of the highest number of social media users, is one of the largest 4G data markets and one of the fastest growing cashless economy in the world. With Galaxy S9 and S9 plus we have re-imagined the smart phone for today’s and tomorrow’s India,” said H.C. Kong, president and chief executive, Samsung South West Asia

The S9 will be available in a price range of Rs57,900 to Rs64,900, while the bigger variant S9 plus will be available in a range of Rs65,900 to Rs72,900.

“Galaxy S9 and S9 plus are smart phones in a class entirely of their own. With this launch Samsung will further consolidate its position in the flagship smart phone segment in India. Through our partnerships with leading operators consumers can experience data speeds like never before for faster downloads and uninterrupted streaming,” said Asim Warsi, senior vice president, mobile business, Samsung India.

In order to lower the cost of buyers, the company will provide a cashback of Rs6,000 if the phone is purchased through the Paytm Mall Qr code. The same facility will be given to customers who buy the phones with an HDFC Bank credit or debit card.

The users of the flagship devices will get 80GB of data with a post-paid plan of Rs299 along with a year’s subscription of Amazon Prime. Users of Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd will receive one terabyte of 4G data and unlimited voice and SMS for a year worth Rs15,000 at only Rs4,999.

Vodafone users will also get a free subscription of Netflix with Vodafone Red plans starting at Rs999.

The S9 and S9 plus was first unveiled at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona last week.
