Racing fans have plenty of options and they are not limited to consoles and PCs
Racing is one genre where the gulf between a console and mobile games are thinner than others. Some of the most popular racing titles such as F1 and Need for Speed are released for console PC along with Android and iOS with consistent gameplay and graphics across all platforms. What makes the genre more fun is the wide range of options available to users. For serious fans, there are games with greater emphasis on realism, while for casual users, there is no dearth of simulation games. Here are some of the top games of the year.
Forza Motorsport 7

Forza Motorsport 7 sets new benchmarks for this Xbox exclusive Forza series. Developed by Turn 10 studios and published by Microsoft, the game offers 700 highly detailed cars and 30 different race tracks. It is also the first game in the series where races will be affected by changes in weather. So if it is raining, visibility will be affected and driving over a puddle will slow down a car. The game awards points after every game which can be used to unlock the next level in the game. It supports 4K (3,840x2,160p) resolution, but you will need the recently launched XBox One S to take advantage of it.

In early 2017, Federation Internationale de Automobile, the governing body of Formula 1, made a number of technical and design changes. Racing cars look bigger and will move faster. Codemasters latest racing game F1 2017 has been designed keeping the new rules in mind. Career mode has been expanded and new Championship mode has been added where you can race in 20 unique events. A key highlight of the game is that you can race in a classic car, such as the 1988 McLaren’s MP4/4 and Ferrari F2002.
Need for Speed Payback

EA Sports’s Need for Speed Payback is notable for its off-the-track approach and strong emphasis on characters and storyline. Every race is part of a long tussle with gangsters and interference by police cars. The game revolves around five characters linked to a particular car. One can buy them in the game form a dealer using speed cards, earned after every race. Payback is an open-world racing game allowing users to choose any route they want to reach a point.
Gran Turismo Sport
A PS4 exclusive, Gran Turismo Sport is the follow-up to Gran Turismo 6, released in 2013. The game was expected to release in 2017 but after a long wait was finally launched in October 2017. Developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony, the game has the licensing rights to offer 150 cars, 17 unique racing tracks and tournaments associated with the FIA (Federation International Automobile), the governing body for F1 and several other racing events. Designed for the latest PS4 Pro, Gran Turismo Sport supports 4K gaming and is compatible with VR headsets too.
NASCAR Heat Mobile

Firebrand Games’s NASCAR Heat mobile is the official mobile game for NASCAR races and involves 23 racing tracks, and 40 unique car models from various NASCAR tournaments. Users can create their own team, hire drivers and participate in the races. Controls are simple and involve tilting the device or tapping the left-right keys on the screen. The game is free to download but you may have to pay real money on in-app purchases at some point.
Popular PC game Grid Autosport by Codemasters from 2015 is now available on iOS as a mobile game offering console-level graphics and arcade-style racing which made the series so popular. The game takes up 6GB of space to install and is completely free from in-app purchases. Users get to drive over 100 different cars and 100 unique circuits spread across five unique game modes. The game provides customisation options, letting users choose the difficulty level, change controls and redesign cars.
