BackMicrosoft launches $999 laptop in hardware push to college students
Microsoft's $999 laptop comes in four colours, has a 13.5-inch touchscreen, Intel Core i5 processor and new Windows 10S operating system
PremiumSeattle/New York: Microsoft Corp. introduced a slim, $999 laptop, its latest push into hardware and a bid to steal Apple Inc.’s college-student customers.
The device comes in four colours, gold, platinum, blue, and burgundy and ditches a metal area around the keyboard for soft microfiber. It has a 13.5-inch (34.3 centimeter) touchscreen, runs the latest Intel processors, and gets 14 hours of battery life, according to Microsoft. It will also be equipped with Microsoft’s new Windows 10S operating system, software the company presented on Tuesday that will be faster and offer better security than previous versions.
The laptop, which Microsoft announced at an event in New York, weighs 2.76 pounds (1.25 kilograms), less than the comparable MacBook Air from Apple.
The new device is Microsoft’s first classic clamshell laptop, whereas previous versions converted from a tablet to a notebook. The base model includes 128GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and runs on an Intel Core i5 processor. More expensive configurations are also available with a faster Intel Core i7 chip, storage capacities up to a terabyte, and as much as 16GB of RAM. Bloomberg
