Google Chrome offers a wide range of extensions and many of them are designed to help users with their work. These extensions or web apps are designed to enhance the capability of not just the web browser but also of services such as Gmail and Drive.
These apps are installed within the web browser, have a much smaller footprint and can be easily removed when not required compared to full-fledged apps on the PC. Here are some cool extensions for Chrome which can help at work. To find them, go to browser menu->more tools->extensions->get more extensions.
Checker Plus for Gmail
Checker Plus can help users who use Gmail for work by helping them not miss any of the important mails. It opens a pop-up window for every new mail and shows the sender’s name, photo and the message in it. Users can read or even listen to the message, mark them as read and delete them from the same box. This will save them a trip to the actual Gmail page. Checker Plus has been developed and published by jasonsavard.com and is available as a free download.
Infinity New Tab
This Chrome Extension changes the look and feel of the Chrome browser by applying new wallpapers and showing bookmarked websites as app icons on the home page. Clicking on regular websites will land users on their homepage, while clicking on note-taking tools or To Do apps will open a side bar providing instant access to them. It is developed and published by Starlab Tech.
Mighty Text allows users working on a PC to send and receive text messages without even taking out their smartphones from their pocket. It also shows notifications for other apps on the smartphone. If the smartphone’s battery is running low, it will also send battery alerts on the web browser. However, to make it work, users need to install the Mighty Text app on their Android smartphones. The tool only works on Windows PC and the app is available only for Android devices. It is developed and published by mightytext.net.
Black Menu for Google
For avid users of various Google services, who require instant access to them frequently, Black Menu can come handy. This extension shows favourite Google services in a customisable drop-down menu. Users can customise what shows on it. The biggest advantage is that users can access it at any point without leaving the page they are working on. Besides Keep, Translate, Gmail, Maps and Calendar, it also provides instant access to Contacts, Google Groups and Google Art Project. It is developed and published by carlosjeurissen.com.
Forest: Stay focused
Forest can help users by blocking sites which may be distracting them from work.
What makes Forest unique is that it makes users undertake a simple task such as planting a seed in a virtual forest to help them stick to their resolve. The idea is to motivate users by making them feel responsible for a tree. The planted seed will grow into a tree after 30 minutes. If users try to access a blocked website, the tree will wither away. The tool is developed and published by forestapp.cc.
