Sand-free mats and a flying camerahere are some gadgets for your next trip to the beach
Sand-free mats
The sand-free mats from C-Gear use two layers of a synthetic meshing system which traps the sand underneath. So you can spend a lazy day on the beach without worrying about sand rubbing into your skin.

Waterproof camera
No holiday would be complete without a folder full of pictures. While smartphones can do the job, they can’t match a camera. At the beach, it would make sense to carry a waterproof camera—you won’t have to worry about getting close to the water with the camera in hand. The Olympus Tough! TG-5, submersible up to a depth of 15m, is one of the toughest digital cameras around. It is also dustproof and can withstand shocks. The Nikon Coolpix W300 is a good option if you want to shoot underwater—it can work in depths of up to 30m.

The Light Phone
Are you one of those people who want minimalism to reflect in your phone as well? Then, you will be glad to meet The Light Phone, a phone that is no bigger than a credit card. As its website says, this phone is “designed to be used as little as possible". The Light Phone uses a unique software platform that allows you to keep your phone number on a second phone (it uses a call-forwarding system and will use your existing phone number for outgoing calls). It can be set up easily and controlled via an app. It’s minimal to the core: nine speed dials and a time display. You will need an active SIM and it will work regardless of where your smartphone is.

The hover camera
They call it the “self-flying personal photographer", and it can easily capture you running the length of a beach as it hovers around. The portable Hover Camera uses face-detection technology to track and follow you. You can control it with an app on your iOS or Android device. It has a maximum hover time of 10 minutes and can be controlled from a distance of up to 20m. Its CMOS camera can capture 4K videos as well as panoramic shots.

A rugged power bank
There will be no power points or adaptors on the sand, and in the sun. Will your power bank survive the effects of sand or seawater? A waterproof power bank would. The EasyAcc 20000 mAh power bank can be submerged in water up to 1m for half an hour (it comes with an IP67 rating). This power source is built like a tank and is shockproof.

Dustproof walkman
Music and islands have a strong connection. Ask David Gilmour (Pink Floyd, anyone?), whose third solo album was aptly called On An Island. The problem with being on a beach holiday is that you don’t want to be bogged down by too many wires. Enter the waterproof and dustproof Walkman from Sony. One of their latest models is the NW-WS623, which comes with Bluetooth and NFC (near-field communication) technology. This Walkman can not only store music (up to 4 GB) but also endure harsh conditions: be it beach sand or a dip in the sea.
