Apps to better organise contacts, calls and messages on Android phones
Default messaging, contacts and dialler app are often out of touch with the times. Here are some apps for Android users which have a lot more to offer
The phonebook, the phone app to make calls and text messaging apps, come pre-loaded on all Android smartphones with a bevy of other system apps. Unfortunately, most of these apps are too basic and have very limited features. This is where a third-party app for contacts and messaging come into picture. They can change the entire user experience by offering a smarter layout and extra features such as spam blocker, contacts organiser and message backup.
We have lined up some free contacts and message apps which you can download right away from Play Store for free.
SMS Clean- Free SMS, Backup
Developed by Microsoft’s Garage team, SMS Clean app is one of the best apps to reorganise your text messages. The app can club all messages into separate categories such as personal, transactions, promotional using machine learning. It has a section for archived messages too. To ensure a user doesn’t miss out on any of important messages it keeps tab on the number of unread messages. It also provides automatic reminders for an upcoming movie or flight journey booked by user based on the messages.
Google’s official Contacts app is no longer exclusive to Google’s Nexus and Pixel range of smartphones and can be downloaded by anyone. What separates it from the default contact app is the emphasis its puts on making Contacts clutter-free and more organised. It can identify duplicate contacts and merge them together so one can see all number of the same person at one place. User can also access messages from multiple Google accounts at one place by switching between the accounts on the same device.
Drupe- contacts, phone dialler & caller ID
Drupe is an all-in-one dialler app with call blocker, call recorder and provides users the option of accessing other calling apps such as WhatsApp, Google Duo or Facebook Messenger without switching to them. It is very different from other contacts and dialler app and uses bubbles and gestures controls. User can apply new themes to change the way it looks, and has some smart features such as Missed calls manager and contact based reminders. The Missed calls manager shows missed calls as floating bubbles instead of putting them away in a list, while contact reminders allow users to create reminders for calls they intend to make at a later time.
SMS Backup and Restore
Resetting a smartphone deletes all your data including messages and contacts. While contacts are automatically backed up if they were synced with the Google account, there is no such option when it comes to messages. Switzerland based Carbonite’s SMS backup and Restore app can help users by taking regular backup of their messages in XML file format on Dropbox or Google Drive. Users can schedule a time for automatic backup or they can manually select messages which are more important. User can also restore backed up messages on new smartphones.
