Review: Logitech UE Wonderboom is all about power, in a small design
Logitech’s new speaker works wirelessly, lasts longer, can survive bad weather and comes at an attractive price
Portable speakers can be very handy for users who like to listen to music while relaxing in the swimming pool or at an outing with friends in a water park. Logitech’s new speaker in the Ultimate Ears line-up, known as the Wonderboom comes with a few extras that make it stand out in the crowd. For starters, it brings a certain amount of style to the table with its unique design and eye-popping colours, but the cherry on the cake is the water-proof exterior. It is available on Amazon.in at Rs7,995.
Stylish and water proof
The UE Wonderboom has a unique design. It looks like a cylindrical cup with inwardly curved top and base, so one can put it on a surface from either side. The power and Bluetooth buttons are placed on the top while the volume buttons are placed along the side panel. The only port on the speaker is a microUSB slot with a rubber flap over it. It is placed at the lower edge of the side panel.
The speaker itself feels well built and uses rubberized finish on top and base, while the entire side panel is wrapped inside a mesh made of water proof materials.
It looks compact but feels a tad hefty at 425g. It has a hanging loop on top, so one can fasten it to bag or use it to hang it somewhere higher while playing some track on it.
It comes with IPX7 rating which makes it resistant to water. So it can not only brush aside water splashes but an also survive dips of up to 1 metre for a duration of 30 minutes. So if it gets dirty or muddy, you can actually wash it.
The speaker comes in 6 unique colour options such as cashmere pink, fireball red, lilac, phantom black, stone grey and subzero blue.
Easy to use
The speaker works with any Bluetooth-ready Android smartphone, tablet, Apple iPhone or iPad. It is easy to set up and instantly detects and pairs with Bluetooth devices close to it. The volume buttons are big and soft which makes adjusting volume on the speaker a lot easier. They also double up as pause, play and skip buttons. In most affordable speakers, the volume controls are either too small or too stiff.
The only limitation is that it doesn’t support a microphone, so you can’t use it for receiving or making a group call.
Impressive battery, loud and clear
It is designed to last longer and can deliver 8 to 10 hours of backup on non-stop music playback, which is quite impressive for a compact speaker like this.
When it comes to audio output, it provides a consistent listening experience from all directions. The 360 degree speaker design projects sound in all directions so you don’t have to worry about its position and angle at all.
The sound quality is impressive. It is surprisingly loud for its size and can make its presence felt in small rooms easily. It is particularly good with bass heavy music and played out anything from heavy metal to trance music beautifully. It doesn’t feel rough or distorted at higher volumes too, something which is a common shortcoming in portable speakers at this price point.
