Uday Bhatia

Assistant editor

Uday Bhatia has 16 years of experience as a film critic and culture journalist. He’s assistant editor at Mint Lounge, writing reviews, opinion pieces, columns and long-form reportage, as well as editing and commissioning stories. He’s been with Mint for 11 years. Before this, he was film and theatre editor at Time Out Delhi. He has been published in GQ, Film Comment, The Caravan, The Hindu, Indian Quarterly, Motherland and The Indian Express. He lives in New Delhi.

He is the author of the non-fiction book “Bullets Over Bombay: Satya and the Hindi Film Gangster” (2021), published by HarperCollins. He has also contributed to the anthology books “The Swinging Seventies: Stars, Style and Substance in Hindi Cinema” (2024) and “Revolution in 35mm: Political Violence and Resistance in Cinema from the Arthouse to the Grindhouse”, 1960-1990 (2024).

He has received a Red Ink Award and a Ramnath Goenka Award for pieces written for Mint Lounge. He has served on the selection committee for the Mumbai Film Festival on two occasions, and has taken sessions for young critics for the festival and at universities.
