Bengaluru-based electric scooter manufacturing startup Ather Energy on Tuesday launched Ather 450X at ₹99,000. The launch comes days after Bajaj Auto Ltd and TVS Motor Company announced their respective foray into the electric scooter space with products like Chetak and iQube.
The new scooter will be available on subscription models as well.
Recently, the Hero Moto Corp Ltd-backed startup signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to set up its second manufacturing facility in the state. The company is also in the process of expanding its operations across metropolitan and Tier-1 cities in India.
The company will expand to eight cities this year, and set up retail partnerships across the country for its products and charging stations, according to Tarun Mehta, founder, Ather Energy.
“With Ather 450X we have changed the ownership model and reduced the upfront payout for the scooter while also reducing the battery replacement cost to virtually nothing. This has been a major impediment to electric vehicle adoption and our new monthly subscription packs address it,” added Mehta.
“Ather has redefined the ownership and purchase models for Ather 450X scooter. With another first in the country, Ather 450X will be offered with new innovative flexible options in the form of performance packs. This will enable customers the flexibility to switch between performance packs as well as receive free battery replacement in the event of battery degradation,” the company said in a release.
Earlier this month Ather Energy invited dealer partners from across the country to set up its experience centres known as Ather Space in Tier-1 cities. Currently, Ather sells its products in Bengalru and Chennai.
