MG Motor India Private Limited, one of the new entrants in the Indian market, on Friday unveiled premium sport utility vehicle (SUV) Gloster and luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) G10 at the Auto Expo 2020.
G10 is sold in markets such as Australia, New Zealand, West Asia and South American countries including Chile, Peru and Asean such as Malaysia, the company said in a statement.
The launch of Gloster and G10 marks MG’s entry in the country’s luxury SUV and MPV segments, respectively, according to Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director – MG Motor India.
The British brand, owned by China’s SAIC Motor Corp, entered India market last year with the launch of its mid-size SUV Hector. The auto company launched its second product, an electric SUV -- ZS --- in January.
Buoyed by the success of its first model in India, Hector, which went on sale in June 2019 and garnered more than 30,000 orders, MG is gearing up to set up a second manufacturing plant in the country to meet demand for its vehicles.
SAIC, the first Chinese carmaker to enter the Indian market, took a cautious approach as it began with an annual capacity of 80,000 vehicles by acquiring the factory of General Motors Co. at Halol in Gujarat. Robust demand for the Hector and its ambitious product plans have forced the company to expand capacity.
