Greater Noida: Volkswagen India on Thursday unveiled its electric car ID Crozz at the Auto Expo 2020. The car merges the design of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a four-door coupe.
Based on Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix platform, the ID Crozz demonstrates the automaker's capabilities in the area of developing electric vehicles. The company plans to create an all-new EV portfolio named ID Family. Volkswagen said ID stands for identity and iconic design.
ID Crozz boasts of a driving range of 500 kms on a single charge and its battery can be charged up to 80% within 30 minutes.
Steffen Knapp, director, Volkswagen passenger cars India, said the group is investing 33 billion euros in the development of EVs with nearly one-third of the total investments coming from brand VW.
Although the company does not plan to launch the Crozz EV in India anytime soon, senior executives told Mint that it would gauge visitors' interest in the model to take discussions further.
On Wednesday, Volkswagen India unveiled four SUVs for the domestic market -- Taigun, T-Roc, Tiguan and the Tiguan Allspace -- at the biennial event in Greater Noida. All the models are slated for commercial launch over the next two years.
The company has commenced pre-bookings of the Tiguan Allspace and the T-Roc as it plans to bring both the models via completely built unit (CBU) route.
The Taigun would be VW's first locally manufactured SUV under the group's 2.0 India strategy. The Taigun will see 92-95% local content once it gets commercially launched in the domestic market next year, Knapp told Mint.
