Bajaj Auto domestic motorcycle sales decline 21% in December
While domestic sales weighed on the auto giant, exports showed a 13% increase in December
New Delhi: India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd on Thursday posted a sharp decline of 21% year-on-year in its domestic motorcycle sales in December. Bajaj Auto dispatched 124,125 motorcycles in reported month against 157,252 units in the same month a year ago.
While domestic sales weighed on the auto giant, exports showed a 13% increase in December. Bajaj Auto’s exports in the month increased to 160,677 units from 141,603 in December 2018. Total motorcycle sales in December declined 5%.
Bajaj Auto’s domestic commercial vehicles sales increased but exports witnessed a decline.
Domestic commercial vehicle dispatches jumped 26% to 29,038 units against 23,099 in December 2018. Exports on the other hand declined 8% from 24,245 units in December 2018.
Bajaj Auto December quarter exports of motorcycles and commercial vehicles were its highest ever for a three-month period.
At 11:09 am, shares of Bajaj Auto Ltd traded 0.7% down at ₹3,125 apiece.
In the quarter ended 30 September, Bajaj Auto posted 21.69% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit at ₹1,402.42 crore. It had posted a net profit of ₹1152.48 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
