With a striking design and off-road capabilities, the Defender Octa, a high-performance iteration of the renowned Defender SUV, has made its debut in India. Based on the Defender 110, the Octa variant boasts a raised ride height and a significantly wider stance, accentuated by extended wheel arches that contribute to its commanding presence.

What’s new

New bumpers at the front and rear improve approach and departure angles, further enhancing its off-road prowess.

Land Rover has also equipped the Defender Octa with robust underbody protection, ensuring it can tackle the most challenging terrains. The grille has been redesigned and now features repositioned radiators for improved cooling efficiency. With a class-leading water-wading capability of up to one metre, it surpasses all previous Defender models. The 22-inch forged alloy wheels, paired with all-terrain tyres, add to its rugged appeal and performance in extreme conditions.

Pricing in India

The Defender Octa enters the Indian market with a starting price of 2.59 crore (ex-showroom). Additionally, the manufacturer has introduced the special Defender Octa Edition One, priced at 2.79 crore (ex-showroom).

Advanced suspension and enhanced dynamics

The Defender Octa is designed to excel both on and off the road, courtesy of its cutting-edge 6D Dynamic suspension. This system effectively manages roll, pitch, and dive in Dynamic mode, ensuring a stable and controlled ride. The dedicated OCTA Mode is tailored for loose surfaces, reducing pressure and disabling pitch control to allow for increased suspension travel. Additional features, such as Off-Road ABS and Launch Control, further bolster its ability to tackle varied terrain.

With a ground clearance of 323 mm—28 mm higher than the standard model—and a stance widened by 68 mm, the Defender Octa delivers enhanced stability. Its stopping power has also been upgraded, with 400 mm front brake discs paired with Brembo callipers providing superior braking performance.

Refined interior

Inside, the Defender Octa seamlessly blends luxury with rugged durability. The cabin features Burnt Sienna and Ebony perforated semi-aniline leather upholstery, complemented by Kvadrat Performance seats with a moonlight interior finish. While it retains the familiar layout of the Defender 110, this iteration introduces additional premium touches.

The SUV incorporates an array of Terrain Response modes to adapt to various conditions, including Sand, Mud and Ruts, Grass Gravel Snow, and Rock Crawl. Land Rover has also introduced innovative off-road assistance technologies such as ClearSight Ground View, allowing drivers to navigate rough terrain with greater ease.

A unique addition to the interior is the collaboration with Subpac and Coventry University, which has resulted in specially designed seats that enable both the driver and front passenger to physically experience music beyond conventional speakers.

Engine and performance

Under the bonnet, the Defender Octa houses a formidable 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 engine, making it the most powerful Defender ever built. This powerhouse delivers an impressive 626 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission that includes high and low-range gears. The SUV sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just four seconds, reinforcing its status as a performance-oriented off-roader.
