Honda has introduced the Elevate SUV specifically designed for the Indian market. This marks the first of five SUVs that Honda intends to introduce in India by 2030. Customers will be able to book the Honda Elevate starting next month, and the official launch is scheduled to occur before the festive season begins.
Autocar India reported that the automaker has unveiled an ambitious product strategy for the Indian market. As per the publication, the company aims to introduce a strong lineup of five SUV models by 2030. India will not only serve as a primary market for the Elevate SUV but also emerge as a crucial export center for this particular model in the coming years. Additionally, Honda Cars India has outlined plans to launch an electric variant of the Elevate within the next three years.
Honda had previously announced its strategy to introduce a new model annually in India, encompassing hybrid and electric vehicles. In an effort to strengthen the Honda brand in the country, the company is once again assessing the feasibility of importing premium models through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) routes.
Reportedly, the company’s foray into the midsize SUV category comes at a time when SUVs have taken a dominant position in the market, accounting for over 40 percent of total sales. Positioned within the midsize SUV market, which has emerged as the second largest sub-segment, the Honda Elevate will directly compete against popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Honda views the Elevate as a crucial addition to its product lineup for the Indian market. Alongside the City and Amaze models, the Elevate will serve as the third key pillar in Honda's strategy, enabling the company to further establish its presence in this rapidly growing segment.
"Despite significant challenges, India has proven its strength and continues to remain the fastest growing market in the world. We have a huge popularity in the sedan segment and hope to translate that into the SUV segment. Elevate is the perfect urban SUV," said Takuya Tsumura, president and CEO of Honda Cars India.
