Honda drops 6G moniker from Activa 6G scooter lineup: Here’s why

PremiumHonda Motor and Scooter India (HMSI) has removed the 6G moniker from its Honda Activa 6G scooter range. The Japanese automaker started adding the G suffix in 2015. The suffix was meant to denote the generational change of the scooter.
But, the company has now dropped it as the latest Activa scooter is no longer listed as ‘Honda Activa 6G’. Instead, it is simply listed as Activa on the company’s website.
While the company has not revealed the exact reason behind the name change, it is likely that with the name change, HMSI seeks to simplify the Activa nameplate. It is also said that the two-wheeler manufacturer is planning to create a new positioning for Activa. It must be noted that other than the name change, Honda Activa will have no other changes in terms of features and specifications.
Major update introduced by the company to its Activa range of scooters was in 2020 as part of the Indian government’s push to comply with Bharat Stage 6 emission norms.
Earlier this year in January, Honda launched the Activa H-Smart scooter in India at a starting price of ₹74,536 (ex-showroom). The new offering was Activa 6G’s new iteration which comes with H-Smart tech.
It comes with a smart find feature which lets it respond when the user tries to find it using the smart key. Furthermore, this smart key lets the rider lock and unlock the scooter without using the physical key. Using this smart key, the scooter’s engine can be started when it is within two meters of the key.
Honda Activa H-Smart also gets an engine start and stop switch. It comes with a bigger wheelbase, a long footbard area, a new passing switch and DC LED headlamp. The scooter sits on new designed alloy wheels and is said to offer a comfortable riding experience through the 12-inch front alloy wheels, telescopic front suspension and adjustable rear suspension.
