Mumbai: South Korean auto major Kia Motors launched its first made in India mid-SUV, Kia Seltos at an introductory price of 9.69 lakh. Kia Seltos comes in both petrol and diesel variants. It will come in three variants: 1.5 petrol, 1.5 diesel, 1.4 turbo petrol mated with both manual and automatic transmissions. The Seltos will be BS-VI compliant right from its launch.

Seltos, a mid-sized SUV, is manufactured at the carmaker's Ananthpur plant in Andhra Pradesh. The model comes in both petrol and diesel variants. With this, the company starts the mass production of the Kia Seltos for the Indian market. Currently, the $1.1 billion manufacturing facility is doing trial production and is expected to produce approximately 300,000 units per year.

Although the automaker's Andhra facility is meant for India production primarily, Kia Motors is also looking at exporting cars to South Africa, South America and South Asian countries from Anantpur. Earlier in January, the world's eighth largest automaker, began the trial production of Kia Seltos, and within six months the final product is ready.

The company has already seen as many as 32,035 bookings till date, said Manohar Bhat, vice president and head of marketing, Kia Motors.

The prebookings for Seltos SUV commenced online as well as on its 206 sales points in the country on July 16.

Kia Motors has entered the Indian market at a time when the domestic automotive industry is facing the worst slowdown in more than two decades.

Kia plans to expand its portfolio by launching a new car in every six to nine months, lining at least five vehicles by 2021. In terms of interiors and creature comforts, Kia said the top variant will get an eight-speaker Bose system, 10.25-inch infotainment system, 7-inch MID, an HUD and a 360-degree camera.
