Mercedes-Benz is all set to bring its flagship convertible car – Mercedes-Benz AMG SL55 in India next month. The company will launch the seventh-generation of Mercedes-Benz SL in the country on June 22.
The car will renter the Indian market after a gap of 12 years. Mercedes-Benz sold the fifth generation of SL in 2012 in India. The company did not introduce thesixth-generation SL in the country.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG SL55 is a two-door sports car that comes equipped with a retractable fabric roof. It’s latest generation is available in the AMG guise only.
The SL is powered by Mercedes-Benz AMG’s M176 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of producing 471 bhp power output and 700 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and offers Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
The sixth generation Mercedes-Benz AMG SL55 will also be the first car to get rear-axle steering as standard. On the design front, the upcoming sports car is rumoured to share its drivetrain, chassis, electrical architecture and other key components with the second-generation AMG GT.
Last month, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its latest E-Class sedan, set to hit the international market in the upcoming months. This sixth-generation model is among the last few internal combustion engine vehicles the automaker will produce before shifting to an all-electric lineup. Along with this significant transition, the new E-Class boasts a larger size compared to its predecessor, resulting in a more spacious interior.
The latest E-Class also boasts an updated range of drivetrains, including revamped petrol-electric plug-in hybrid systems available in select markets, now featuring a larger battery and an extended electric range of up to 115km (WLTP). Initially, the new E-Class will offer a selection of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard. Power output for these engines ranges between 196hp and 375hp.
