Mercedes-Benz has recently launched the refreshed G-Class range in India, featuring the new G 400d model. The starting price for the 2023 Mercedes G 400d is set at ₹2.55 crore (ex-showroom), representing an increase of ₹83 lakh compared to the outgoing G 350d. Interested customers can now book the G400d by paying a booking amount of ₹1.5 lakh. With this latest release, Mercedes-Benz continues to target the high-end luxury vehicle segment in India.
The G 400d variant of the updated G-Class is equipped with a 3.0-liter OM656 in-line six-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 330hp, which is an improvement from the previous G 350d's 286hp. It generates a torque of 700Nm within the 1,200-3,200rpm range, an increase from the predecessor's 600Nm. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission, enabling the G 400d to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 6.4 seconds, which is one second faster than the outgoing model.
This G 400d variant in India retains its traditional ladder-frame construction and features a dedicated G-Mode with off-road driving capabilities. It boasts a generous ground clearance of 241mm and can handle water wading up to a depth of 700m.
In the Indian market, the G 400d is available in two variants, both starting at a price of ₹2.55 crore (ex-showroom).
Mercedes-Benz has introduced a special G 400d Adventure Edition exclusively for the Indian market, alongside the existing AMG Line. This edition offers four distinct exterior paint choices, all selected from the brand's G Manufaktur range of exclusive options. The available colors are Desert Sand non-metallic, Vintage blue non-metallic, Travertine beige metallic, and South Seas blue metallic. In addition to these specific options, customers can also choose from a total of 25 paint shades available across the G 400d lineup.
The Adventure Edition of the G 400d model includes several distinctive features such as 18-inch silver alloy wheels with a 5-spoke design, a roof rack, a robust spare-wheel holder, a detachable ladder, a full-sized spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, and a Nappa leather multi-function steering wheel.
In contrast, the G 400d AMG Line showcases the iconic AMG styling elements on the exterior, highlighted by unique 20-inch alloy wheels with a multi-spoke design, along with additional equipment specific to this variant. It also offers a sliding sunroof, a Burmester sound system, and an ambient lighting system with 64 selectable colors, among other notable features.
The G 400d is scheduled to commence deliveries in the final quarter of this year. Currently, bookings are open, with priority given to existing Mercedes-Benz customers. In the Indian market, the G 400d will maintain its competition against the well-received Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
