Euro NCAP has announced the results of its last round of tests for 2019. The MG ZS EV has managed to score a five-star Euro NCAP rating – the maximum possible rating from the car safety agency. MG ZS EV has scored a full 5-Star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test for frontal, frontal off-set and side collision while MG ZS EV body has been rated as stable.

MG Motor India had on Thursday announced about accepting bookings for the ZS EV from 21 December. The India-bound electric sports utility vehicle is based on the same spec as the MG GS model that is sold in the global market. Although, one of the major safety equipment of MG ZS EV, the AEB (Auto Emergency Braking) feature will be missing in the India-bound model.

The safety mechanism on offer on the MG ZS EV includes six airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, speed assist, lane keep assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for pedestrians and cyclists in both city and inter-urban settings, as standard. Although, the AEB feature of the car will be missing in the model for the Indian market. As per the NCAP test, the passenger compartment of the ZS EV remained stable in the frontal offset test.

Here are the main safety points which helped MG ZS EV score the maximum five star.

-The adult occupancy rating on the ZS EV was 90 percent (scoring 34.5 out of 38 points), child occupancy safety rating was 85 percent (41.7 of 49 points), the vulnerable road users rating was 64 percent (31 of 48 points), while it scored 70 percent (9.2 of 13 points) in the safety assist system category.

-The ZS EV has a seatbelt reminder for the front and rear seats.

-A speed assistance system uses a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver who can set the limiter to the appropriate speed.

-A lane support system helps to prevent inadvertent drifting out of lane.

-The AEB (Auto Emergency Braking) performance of the car was rated as good, with collisions avoided or mitigated in most circumstances.

MG ZS EV can go as far as 340 kilometres on a single charge, the company claims. The vehicle will compete against the likes of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Kona, the only other brand with an electric SUV in India.
