The Indian version of Hyundai i20 might come with a different set of features
The i20 will be globally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3
NEW DELHI :
Hyundai i20 is all set for a major update. The car is coming to India this year but the company has given us a good glimpse at what to expect from the new version of the premium hatchback. The company even revealed a video showing the new i20 in all its modern glory. This development comes just a few days after the official images of the car were leaked.
The company has also announced, on its official Facebook page, that they will be unveiling the new i20 at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3. So far, the details revealed by Hyundai are mostly concerned with the European version of the car. The Indian version might come with a detuned engine and a different set of features. The biggest noticeable difference will be in the length of the European and Indian version. Hyundai India will have to bring down the length of the car to below 4 meters to avail tax benefits.
The European version will get a lower roof (-24mm), wider body (+30mm) and increased length (+5mm), while the wheelbase has also been increased by +10mm. The car will also get 17-inch alloy wheels for at least the top variant. The boot space has been increased by 25 liters and now offers a total of 351 liters of luggage carrying capacity.
We can expect a lot more similarity with the European version, in terms of aesthetics of the new car. Compared to the outgoing i20, the new version has very strong character lines. This gives the car a sharper and sleeker look. The sweptback headlamps and the arching DRLs add to the fresh front fascia of the car.
The tail lamps get a unique Z-shaped design which flow along the sides as well. A chunky black bar connects both the tail lights. The C-pillar design is new and the company has also managed to introduce a quarter-fixed glass for better visibility. We’ll have to wait and watch how the shorter Indian version of the Hyundai i20 will be tweaked.
The interiors of the new i20 also get an overhaul. The European version i20 gets two new 10.25 inch screens, consisting of a digital cluster and a navigation touchscreen, which are visually combined in the dashboard. The European version of the i20 offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and even a wireless charging pad in the centre console. The car also gets LED ambient light technology in cabin. The European version will also get a premium Bose audio system with eight speakers which also includes a sub-woofer.
In terms of safety it gets Hyundai SmartSense package which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LDVA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-traffic Collision Assist (RCCA), Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist – Reverse (PCA-R), Parking Assist (PA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and much more.
Hyundai India is expected to unveil the Indian version of the i20 in mid-2020, just in time for the festive season. The new car will go against Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
