Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday revamped its hatchback WagonR. Priced between ₹4.19 lakh and ₹5.69 lakh (ex-showroom), it looks to further strengthen MSI's position in the compact hatchback segment

The one-litre manual versions of new WagonR are priced at <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>4.19 lakh and <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>4.69 lakh, while the automated gear shift trim is tagged at <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>5.16 lakh. The 1.2-litre variants are priced between <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>4.89 lakh and <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>5.69 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The new WagonR, which is based on Suzuki's fifth generation HEARTECT platform, is wider and longer than its outgoing version. It has led to improved interior space as well as boot capacity which has almost doubled up to 341 litres from the earlier avatar.

The rear-end has also gone through the knife. The tail lamps have been redesigned and now stretch all the way up to the roof, pronouncing its tall boy stance.

The new WagonR comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine option along with another choice of 1-litre powertrain. The 1 litre unit produces 68PS of power and 90Nm of peak torque. The 1.2-litre motor produces 83PS of power and 113Nm of peak torque. The WagonR comes in manual as well as automatic gear shift transmissions.

The third-generation WagonR can seat five people and comes with various safety features such as driver airbag, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors.

A 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system is a new addition to the central console. It is not the Suzuki SmartPlay unit seen on more expensive Maruti cars but it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and gets in-built navigation as well.
