For the 2023 model year, Yamaha Motor has made updates to the R3 in Japan. The R3 was among the premium motorcycles showcased to Yamaha's dealers in India, where it had previously been sold but later removed from the market. However, it is anticipated that the latest updated version of the R3 will return to India soon, likely as the MY2023 model.
For the upcoming model year, the Yamaha R3 has undergone minor tweaks. The refreshed version boasts stylish LED indicators, which have been adopted from Yamaha's larger motorcycles. Additionally, there is a striking new purple color option that is sure to catch the eye.
The 2023 Yamaha R3 retains its 321 cc parallel-twin engine that has been calibrated to deliver 41 bhp of power at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 29.5 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The motorcycle is built around a diamond frame and equipped with 37 mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock at the rear, both adjustable for preload, from KYB.
Interestingly, the 2023 Yamaha R3 features several additional hardware elements, such as LED lighting, an LCD instrument panel, a slipper clutch, and dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle has been historically positioned as a sport tourer due to its comfortable ergonomics and smooth-revving engine, making it an excellent option for long-distance rides. Yamaha has redesigned the R3 with a new aesthetic that aligns with the larger R7 model in their lineup, marking a significant departure from the previous version sold in India.
When it hits the market, the Yamaha R3 will face off against the KTM RC 390, rekindling a longstanding rivalry between the two brands. It will also contend with the BMW G310 RR. The R3's pricing will be a critical factor in its success, and it is anticipated that it will not be as budget-friendly as single-cylinder models. The motorcycle is expected to be assembled through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) method.
