Three years back, Max Bupa Health Insurance Company came up with the “Walk for Health Survey" around the World Health Day 2017. The intercity consumer survey threw up some astonishing findings. Almost 97% of Indians who went for a regular walk experienced better mental and emotional health while 42% of the elderly felt that they could beat stress by walking regularly. Quite significantly, 50% of millennial said they experienced reduced stress and hypertension after walking. Though the survey was carried out in the four cities – Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur, today, in a post-COVID India, the significance of mental health awareness and the need for insurance has only grown in size.
About a decade ago, mental health wasn’t really the talking point that it is today, especially among a generation facing stress and other problems arising out of being stuck inside the four walls of their homes, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is only natural that more and more people, including the elderly and the millennial, should find out more about the right health insurance plan, which covers mental illnesses, so that in case they face a similar situation as thousands of such patients, they are not caught off-guard.
Max Bupa, a trusted brand name in the field of health insurance, has included mental health illness as part of the illnesses covered under its health policies. However, the company informs that the crux of choosing the right policy for you is to enquire beforehand about certain components like OPD coverage, in-patient coverage, and company policy regarding existing mental health conditions.
Considering that the present way of life is leading to increase in mental health illness cases, the need to seek health coverage for the same is also on the rise, thankfully. For the past 6 months, people are facing myriad psychological and emotional issues and this surge is showing no signs of ending any time in the near future. However, with the right health insurance policy in your kitty, facing such illness could be a little easier.
There is no doubt that the majority of health insurance providers, including Max Bupa, are covering mental illnesses in line with insurance regulations, the insurers are also facing challenges regarding offering effective mental illness coverage. For one, there is no reliable customer data available, partially because mental health awareness is still not recognized at a desirable level by government institutions. Industry experts are of the opinion that once these hurdles are removed, it would help insurance providers to offer better standalone products to suit customers seeking insurance specifically for mental health illness.
