When India began its “ban China" outcry, Chinese smartphone makers like realme, a spin-off from OPPO, were quick to defend themselves to remain entrenched in the Indian market. Since its inception in India, realme has been providing better and more durable smartphones to Indians year in and year out. A realme phone is often among the top five choices for any Indian smartphone buyer. In 2020, Madhav Sheth, the company’s head honcho in India boldly called realme “an Indian start-up". Primarily done to quell the apprehension of consumers as the brand was boycotted for its Chinese roots, people were happy to hear this claim. Nonetheless, realme entered the Indian market in 2018, and in a matter of a few years gained recognition for its quality smartphones at affordable prices.

Indian at heart

While the fact remains that the realme mobile has its roots in China, Indian consumers get solace from the fact that realme launches most of its products in India. Realme had also recently announced that it has created more employment within India by December 2020. This seems to have placated Indian consumers and the government, both of which are pleased about realme’s expansion plans. For now, the Indian consumers are satisfied with the fact that 50% of overall realme smartphone sales are related to the Indian market. With its new AIoT products and smartphone applications, realme is on its way to greater innovation in new launches, keeping prices low. A realme 5G phone is affordable today, mainly because realme profits on bulk sales and not sales per unit. Furthermore, realme was the first brand to launch 5G phones in India. The phones offered by realme are more affordable than those offered by a majority of the extant brands. With established plants in India sourcing 60% of its components, realme can give Indian consumers the price-performance balance they want.

Realme’s new toppers

With new launches every year, realme is at the top of its game. In 2020, realme X50 Pro, the realme 5G phone was a top seller, with the anticipation of 5G technology rife in India. Among the other 5G phones were the realme X7, realme Narzo 30 Pro and realme 8. The mindset of Indians has turned to owning future-ready mobile phones and realme can meet this demand. Moreover, realme expects that 40% of its phones sold in India in 2021 will be 5G smartphones. Here’s a round-up of new realme phones in 2021.
