Simon Kallu is a chartered accountant who graduated top of his class at Big Four audit firm KPMG. Yet, despite this stellar start to his career, he found himself unmotivated, unstimulated, and tied down by the constraints of his corporate job.
“I wasn’t built to climb the corporate, social ladder, and I didn’t like being told what to do!" the Entrepreneur candidly admits in his book, Unleash Your Business Potential. “Like so many of you, I clock-watched all day and took no pleasure in being just another small cog in someone else’s big wheel."
One day, Simon had a breakthrough moment: he heard his wife on the phone to her accountant, chasing him for a simple reply, and he thought he could help people like her by striking out on his own.
“I can do this," he decided. “I will do this. I can do things differently—start by offering the same services as a traditional accountant but do them better."
Starting GrowFactor did not come without challenges, but it gave Simon the freedom he needed to build his schedule. In his downtime, the Entrepreneur loves to travel, spend time with his wife and sons, and work on his shape through his passion for CrossFit. But, as the master of his agenda, he is free to do all these things at times that suit him.
Creating a company from scratch requires a considerable amount of work, not only on the business itself but also on yourself. Leaving his corporate job has given him the freedom to work on himself and work towards his personal goals daily.
