Mr. Ajay Bhatt, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Medsource Ozone Biomedicals Pvt. Ltd., one of India’s largest manufacturers for In Vitro diagnostics and personal use medical devices.

He said in conjunction with the inauguration of their state of the art, first in India manufacturing facility for Autoimmune Diagnostic assays. This initiative, under Make in India program was recently inaugurated at Delhi - NCR by prominent doctors from public and private healthcare sector.

As a fast growing Indian MNC with presence across India and 40+ overseas markets, Medsource Ozone has already developed in to a leading IVD solution provider. With over 400 direct employees servicing 12000+ customers across these geographies, the company offers its solution through its own field force and distribution partners across 5 continents.

During conversation, he indicated “Medsource Ozone is committed to innovation. We are world’s largest manufacturer of Malaria Pf/Pv antigen rapid test. One of the first assays for HIV antigen assay, unique Covid diagnostic solutions for molecular labs, early sepsis markers, point of care blood group testing etc. are few among many firsts brought to the market. ‘Make in India’ has been our slogan and we feel it is critical for our nation to be self-reliant and an overall net exporter of medical devices.

When questioned how this journey was made possible, Mr. Bhatt reflected upon the evolution of a small company in to a large Indian IVD organisation as one of his greatest achievements in his career spanning close to three decades. “The journey has been fascinating so far and it’s this energy that has boosted us to take another big stride which no other IVD company has tried so far in India."

The conversation turned interesting when he explained on how they identified a hitherto niche market like autoimmune disorders where there is a lack of awareness at multiple levels. He explained, “We have been an organized player in autoimmune diagnostics for more than a decade now, and recognise that we can and must do a lot more.  The varied, often non-specific clinical symptoms, limited expertise in clinical and laboratory diagnosis made us realise the huge void and the potential it brings in from a market development and R&D perspective. The fact that it can affect younger population in the prime of their life makes it a far serious concern than recognized, and it must be addressed."

Adding on, he indicated that the current methods of diagnosis are expensive and require good acumen in interpreting the reports to help the clinician reach a diagnosis and initiate treatment. “Already our German partner, Human Diagnostics GmbH, is a globally recognized player in this field. With the technology transfer in place and quality manufacturing protocols strictly as per the established German standards, we are set to revolutionize this space. This partnership represents a giant leap for autoimmune testing, enabling automation, reducing costs and increasing adoption of autoimmune testing across the country."

The ‘Make in India’ initiative is a boon to us. Elaborating on this he mentioned that organized sector for diagnostics is expected to grow >15% YoY for coming 3 to 5 years. On the status of current testing, he pointed, “With over 50,000 labs across the country, less than 1% currently offer quality autoimmune testing, and this is what must change. With a range of products across biochemistry, haematology, rapid tests, point of care testing, blood banking, molecular diagnostics, coagulation and autoimmune testing, Medsource Ozone is a preferred supplier for medium and large labs. On the other hand, our Ozocheck range of medical devices offer unparalleled performance and economy for patients and medical practitioners."

The trends of Indian healthcare and its growth in northward direction comes as a confidence booster amidst current global economic slowdown and slow growth sentiments across sectors.  He exuded positive enthusiasm about Indian enterprises, fast integration of technology and talent from newer generations coming in to take such enterprises to new heights.
