Hemp Horizons, a B2B2C company, with its in-house machinery and rigorous quality checks is ready to venture into the billion-dollar medicinal hemp market. Working in close association with experts, the company aims to manufacture products with a zero-waste policy and a carbon-negative footprint
The global industrial hemp market, which was estimated to be worth USD 4.9 billion in 2019, is now forecast to reach USD 18.6 billion by 2027. Due to the rising health awareness among people and growing demand for advanced medical technology, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to achieve the highest growth in this field this decade. Entering this billion-dollar market is Hemp Horizons, which has been working for the past six years to produce dietary and personal care products from hemp seeds and hemp oil, and is now set to venture into the medicinal hemp space.
The co-founder and CEO of Hemp Horizons, Rohit Shah, shared that the market in this space is growing in India and worldwide and is also expanding quickly. “The CBD market is predicted to experience a 16.8 per cent compound annual growth rate in the next 10 years, reaching a value of USD 22.05 billion by 2030. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for CBD for medical and wellness purposes due to its healing properties," said Shah
Zero-waste and carbon-negative footprint
The hemp-based products manufactured by the company go through various stages of quality checks to ensure purity. The aim is to adhere to a zero-waste policy and work towards having a carbon-negative footprint in production. This means that the carbon footprint of the product will be minimised to zero or less than that. The company says its in-house machinery and rigorous quality checks are the primary reasons it remains a “leaf-to-product" organization.
“At Hemp Horizons, we have a vertically integrated business model, handling everything from sourcing raw materials to processing, extraction, packaging, and distribution under one roof. In the past six months, we have expanded our distribution to over 300 stores nationwide," said Shah.
Industrial hemp can grow quickly and absorb more carbon dioxide than many other plants. As far as carbon emissions go, industrial hemp has the capacity to absorb around 22 tonnes of carbon dioxide per hectare.
Hemp Horizons’ growth
The company was founded in 2017 and received its Ayurveda license for hemp seed processing in 2018 under the brand name ‘Health Horizons.’ In their B-2-B operations, the company supplies products to wholesalers and entrepreneurs, while also providing wholesome solutions to their clients – from manufacturing to packaging. By 2020, the company received approvals to use the plant's extracts for edible and topical application purposes. Hemp Horizons is now equipped to enter the industrial hemp market.

At present, the company can process 3 metric tonnes of hemp in medicinal forms, which is around 5,000 bottles per day. The company aims to create “premium quality hemp products" and is in close association with experts such as scientists and researchers and sees its future in research in the field of the plant.
In December 2022 the company was listed as the top company in the ‘Early Stage Editor’s Pick’ category in a report. The report was created by Tracxn which is a platform where a Bengaluru-based company keeps track of innovative companies worldwide.
Hemp products
The hemp plant is a source of many biogenetic compounds, which, according to the company, has many healing properties. It is used in making products that range from oils to creams as well as moisturizers and ointments. The company uses hemp to make ayurvedic medicinal products with cold ethanol extraction, which is effective in obtaining extracts from the plant. With this extraction method, the company is able to make ayurvedic medicinal hemp products such as ayurvedic powder blends, hemp oils, hair oil blends, massage oils for pets, and hemp tea.
The products are sold under the company’s brand name Health Horizons and you can check out more products from their website. The ‘Elate’ oil by the company is said to help relieve muscle pains and costs Rs. 999, while ‘Allure’ is an anti-acne oil that also costs Rs. 999.
