With Covid-19 shaking our very existence, organisations like Goonj might find themselves in the soup, especially when it comes to financial aid. Emma Mattress has decided to step in and help the NGO to fulfill its goals. Read on to know more about this collaboration.
It has been five years since India passed the Corporate Social Responsibility Act, Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013. All the companies that boast a net worth of ₹500 crore, or revenues exceeding ₹1,000 crore are mandated to spend two percent of their average profit over the last three years on CSR programmes.
According to KPMG’s analysis titled ‘India CSR Reporting Survey 2019’, Indian corporates spent ₹8,691 crore on CSR in 2019. Even though this amount has witnessed a rise from the previous years, it is too small for the size of corporate India. The need of the hour is to step up and find ways to support the social sector that works tirelessly for the betterment of the nation.
While this Act has encouraged corporates to work closely with the social sector, things seem bleak at this point. Non-profit organisations support the country in different ways, and work round the clock to benefit people as much as they can. They do everything possible to keep their operations up and running, but from time to time, they require funding for seamless functioning.
One of the more prominent social organisations, New-Delhi based NGO Goonj has always shown exemplary work, and has always nurtured a culture of mindful giving and responsible citizenship in cities and villages of India. Today, they are undergoing a crisis where they may be forced to change the way they operate. Organisations like Goonj are dependent on public support for fundraising, not just to sustain themselves but also to extend help during trying times.
With Covid-19 shaking our very existence, organisations like Goonj might find themselves in a soup, especially when it comes to financial aid. This is also in light of greater need and demand for their work. At this stage when the economy is on the verge of a meltdown, several companies are shutting shop and the charitable expenditure has gone down due to sizable corporate losses.
A good night’s sleep
To help Goonj during these turbulent times, Emma Mattress, winner of over 35 “best mattress" awards in Europe, the Emma Original, recently announced their partnership with the NGO, as part of ‘Emma’s for Everyone’ campaign.
It was in 2016 that the Supreme Court of India listed sleep as a fundamental right. Today, India is ranked as the second-most sleep deprived country in the world. The world-class mattress brand aims to provide everyone with quality sleep, through its partnership with Goonj.
Besides, keeping in mind the current scenario, with the number of Covid-19 cases increasing in India, Emma Mattress will work with Goonj to provide hospitals with their memory foam and orthopedic mattresses.
Moreover, during the entire duration of the campaign, Emma Mattress will also double any monetary donations made directly to Goonj by the visitors redirected from their website, in order to support the overextended non-profit.
Those who participate in the campaign will also get a chance to enter a charitable raffle to win Emma products worth ₹1 million.
That’s not all - the company has also launched another campaign called ‘Stay Home India’ on their social media accounts to spread information on the right ways to control the spread of the disease.
Emma Mattress is leading the change; it’s time for others to follow suit!
