Conversations around sustainable businesses and why it’s well poised to transform strategies for the better is ubiquitous. The rarity in this unique business for social good are women at the helm, standing steadfast in their belief that they can change the world for the better. Breaking biases at every turn are some extraordinary female entrepreneurs who are part of Unreasonable Impact, a first-of-a-kind international accelerator programme created by Barclays and Unreasonable.

"Every citizen has the right to know where pollution is coming from - which power plant is emitting harmful gases, which company is dumping effluent waste in which rivers and which residential complexes are disposing of sewage in the lakes," says Abhilasha Purwar, Founder & CEO, Blue Sky Analytics. This Unreasonable Impact entrepreneur founded Blue Sky Analytics. Blue Sky puts the action in climate action with its data aggregation and analytics platform to provide high-resolution, high-frequency, and near-real-time information on key environmental indicators such as air, water, and land. Governments and companies can use this data to make better environmental decisions and actions.

On the other end of the spectrum Banka BioLoo’s vision is to see India as an open-defecation-free country, and Indians having secure and reliable access to water and hygiene facilities. Namita Banka, a Science graduate from Delhi University realized that while sanitation and women's hygiene are taboo conversation topics, there is a need for sustainable sanitation solutions. So, she started Banka BioLoo to provide sanitation infrastructure and innovative and sustainable human waste management solutions and services. She is often asked why she chose to venture into an unglamorous industry. But she’s happy to have found her calling in making a socio-environmental impact.

Another Unreasonable company is Ecoware, founded by Rhea Mazumdar Singhal. When she moved to Delhi in 2009, she was appalled by the rampant use of plastic and its careless disposal. She wanted to develop a safe, easy-to-use and eco-friendly solution. Her company, Ecoware makes 100% natural products that include tableware, cutlery, and takeaway packaging using biomass. She has not just developed eco-friendly products and created a market for them but also uses waste products from the sugarcane farming industry, which would have otherwise been burned, causing further environmental pollution.
Unreasonable Impact aims to empower high-growth, mission-driven businesses to succeed at the intersection of business and social impact. From AI-led solutions to provide global-environment-data-as-a-service to innovative and sustainable human waste management solutions and eco-friendly biodegradable tableware, cutlery, and takeaway packaging. These Unreasonable women are at the forefront of sustainable businesses, bringing change one idea at a time.
