BRAND POST
Listen to this article

It’s difficult being born and raised in a rough neighborhood where you constantly see people doing bad things. Drugs and violence are common, and negative energy is everywhere. As a young boy growing up in the Frankford neighborhood in Philadelphia, PA, it was hard for Haneef Johnson to escape the life that surrounded him. However, Johnson knew he had to break the cycle of negativity if he wanted to get out. Though it was an arduous journey, he did so by staying focused on his goals and being creative with his art. Today, anyone looking for inspiration or hope for a better future can follow Johnson’s journey from street corner hustler to successful entrepreneur.

Johnson’s story began when he discovered music and developed a passion for it. As he grew older, he realized people liked what he produced, so it became his hobby. During his teens, he also developed an interest in video games, becoming a pro player and renowned figure in the industry. Johnson had a lot of fun playing these games, winning prizes, and traveling the world, but he yearned to do more as the years went by. Determined not to live the stereotypical rough neighborhood lifestyle, Johnson became more serious about his music production and got to work.

Gradually, Johnson’s skills and work ethic started attracting big names in the Philly music scene. He found himself making beats for many local artists and growing his reputation as a producer within no time. That success motivated him to embark on his streetwear fashion design venture, another passion he’d wanted to explore for some time. That’s how Johnson’s clothing line, the Evil Hearts Club, was born.

Johnson has grown the company from a small, burgeoning fashion store into a multimillion-dollar brand in record time. Today, Johnson makes millions of dollars by selling t-shirts, hoodies, and other streetwear. Most days, Johnson gets to do the two things he enjoys the most for one customer: produce hit records for them and make them look cool at the same time. Doing that for his favorite artist in the world has been one of his proudest moments.

The versatility that allows Johnson to do awesome things and make a lot of money took years to develop. When he decided to transition from his former lifestyle to entrepreneurship, his own mindset was his first obstacle. After many years of believing one thing, it was hard to change his street mindset to a corporate one. The negativity surrounding him didn’t help much either, but Johnson was determined to succeed.

As a music producer and designer, Johnson has come a long way. He has learned how to add value to his clients in both industries, motivate himself, and keep scaling. One useful lesson he has learned is the value of holding firm to his principles no matter what because that’s what guides his interactions. Johnson says that in a world full of shiny things, having passion without principles is the fastest route to financial ruin.

When he’s not making music for artists, Johnson spends his time expanding Evil Hearts Club and designing new products. His mission is to transform the company into a global brand and become a household name. Along the way, he also hopes to encourage and motivate others to achieve success as he did.
