Five years ago, when siblings Avani Modi Sarkar and Viral Modi were looking for meaningful toys for their daughters, they were disappointed by the lack of options that offered both entertainment and educational value. The lack of suitable toys inspired them to launch their modern toy brand, Modi Toys, which draws inspiration from Hinduism. As the maker of the first-ever mantra-singing plush toys, the brand has garnered awards and accolades for its simple yet culturally rich toys and books. Modi Toys is an innovative 100% Made in India brand that combines playtime with cultural learning, offering a valuable experience for kids and parents alike.

Unleashing the Magic of Hindu Culture: The Whimsical Voyage of Modi Toys

Modi Toys has had a successful five-years-long run in the USA, and its founders are now gearing up to conquer the Indian market. Speaking about their entrepreneurial journey so far, Avani says, “After living in the USA for over 30 years, we’re returning home to India, the very place where my brothers and I were born and raised – and the place that inspired us to start Modi Toys." It is this connection that forms the inspiration behind Modi Toys, as the founders felt that their kids deserved to be raised with similar values taught by their parents. Avani says, “We wanted to give our kids toys that conveyed our beautiful Indian culture, especially our Hindu heritage." Today, with tens of thousands of customers in every corner of the world, Avani and Viral feel proud to see Indian and multicultural families embracing their products. To date, Modi Toys has reached over 80,000 families across 38 countries, making a positive impact on the lives of children and their families. But the impact goes beyond just providing joy through toys. By featuring characters and stories from ancient Indian culture, Modi Toys is sparking curiosity in children's minds and helping them learn about the rich history of this 4,000-year-old civilization.

Avani and Viral place great emphasis on the significance of incorporating educational and fun elements in the creation of Modi Toys. They believe that toys that stimulate children's cognitive and creative skills while entertaining them are vital for their overall growth and development. Thus, they strive to ensure that Modi Toys offer a perfect balance between learning and play, making them a valuable addition to children's lives. The founders’ vision for Modi Toys goes beyond mere playthings but rather a gateway to a world of discovery and exploration.

Commitment to Sustainability: Craftsmanship with a Conscience

The company is committed to facilitating measurable social change through its multiple collections, which comprise plush toy figures representing Baby Hanuman, Baby Krishna, Baby Ganesh and also Durga Devi, Saraswati Devi, and Laxmi Devi. The range also includes the “Shhhanti Musical Crib Mobile," which helps introduce babies to popular Hindu hymns such as “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram" in instrumental melodies. Studies show that music helps develop spatial intelligence and stimulates the formation of brain chemicals, helping make children smarter and happier.

Talking about their products, co-founder Viral Modi highlights Modi Toys' commitment to ethical and responsible practices, ensuring that they not only produce quality toys but also prioritize sustainability. He stated that India is now established as Modi Toys’ second logistics hub. This move is aimed at reducing shipping costs, transit times, and, most importantly, our carbon footprint. By locating our logistics hub closer to our suppliers, we can streamline our supply chain operations, increase efficiency, and reduce our environmental impact. This is an important step towards achieving our goal of becoming a more sustainable company.

By adopting sustainable practices throughout its operations, Modi Toys has taken a proactive approach to environmental stewardship. This includes their use of eco-friendly materials in their toy production and a partnership with a non-profit children’s organization that encourages Modi Toys customers to donate gently used toys to the less fortunate. The latter practice serves as a reminder to families of the importance of “less is more" – each time they bring home a new toy, they should consider giving one away.

Pioneering New Horizons for the Future of Indian Toy

Modi Toys takes pride in being 100% Made-in-India, supporting local artisans' communities, and maintaining industry standards. This commitment aligns with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s vision, which emphasizes the promotion of domestic manufacturing while ensuring superior quality and authenticity. After being first launched in the USA in 2018, Modi Toys has had a dream run in the global toy market. It is proven by the multiple awards won by the brand and its founders, including the Good Housekeeping Best Toys Award and Parents Best Toys Award. In addition, Avani and Viral have also been recognized as the Forbes Next 1000 honoree, Inc Female Founder 100, and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist. “As we look to the future, we are excited to make our culture more accessible for even more people around the world with innovative products and media."
