The safe space for students, called CLUST SPACE, officially started operating at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The shelter will provide a safe offline learning environment for students during wartime and a hub for development, creativity, and innovation. After the cessation of hostilities, the space will continue to operate, providing students with additional opportunities for self-expression, hosting large-scale events, and engaging in other activities.

The official opening of CLUST SPACE took place on January 25th at the Scientific and Technical Library of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Government, education, business, and civil society representatives participated in the event. Ruslan Tymofieiev, the initiator of the CLUST SPACE project, entrepreneur, investor, founder of the venture builder CLUST, and CEO of the venture fund Adventures Lab, was also present in an online format. Ruslan Tymofieiev opened the official part of the event with his speech and shared how the idea of building the smart shelter appeared and who exactly helped to implement the project. Several speakers also spoke at the event, including:

Ruslan Tymofieiev About The First CLUST SPACE in Ukraine

During the event, Ruslan Tymofieiev commented that CLUST SPACE is not just a singular solution to the issue of education during wartime but a systemic effort toward the development of student life. This project has responded to numerous current societal demands and is a unique safety solution that can be replicated in other regions of Ukraine and beyond.

The entrepreneur noted that the idea of building a safe shelter did not come immediately. After the full-scale invasion, Ukrainians united and tried to help each other as much as possible. As Ruslan Tymofieiev pointed out, his team constantly received requests for assistance — from refugees, volunteers, military personnel, and territorial defense — and sought to address all issues individually. However, all the assistance resembled more chaos.

When the tension slightly eased and everyone began to adapt to the new reality, understanding that a long struggle with the enemy lay ahead, Ruslan Tymofieiev realized he wanted to provide systematic assistance to his country. He set himself to find an important niche and invest funds there.

Ruslan Tymofieiev decided to invest in education very thoughtfully. For the entrepreneur, the topic of education is highly significant because, throughout many years of managing businesses abroad and communicating with foreign entrepreneurs, he observed that Ukrainian professionals are the most qualified, surpassing their colleagues from abroad both in terms of education level and responsibility in task accomplishment.

The construction of the smart shelter lasted for five months, and the total implementation cost of the project amounted to $415,000.

Who Else Took Part In The Implementation Of The Clust Space Project

The construction of the smart shelter lasted for five months, and the total implementation cost of the project amounted to $415,000. This price was mainly because the target facility had some architectural peculiarities. For example, it was necessary to completely update the ventilation system, install armored glass, ensure autonomous power supply, and much more.

Ruslan Tymofieiev noted that the primary donor was Freedom Holding Corp. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration, the "Svichado" Charitable Foundation, and the Usyk Foundation also support this project.

As a result, Ruslan Tymofieiev's team managed to create a modern educational space covering an area of 600 square meters, accommodating over 500 people, and designed for prolonged student stays in case of threat. In addition to the large open space, there are several meeting rooms for online meetings, reading rooms, a cafeteria, restrooms, and more.

Construction Of Clust Space In Dnipro

At the opening of the smart shelter in Kyiv, Ruslan Tymofieiev also revealed information about the next city where a smart shelter will appear. Construction will begin at the base of the Honchar Dniprovsky National University in Dnipro. The project has already received its first contribution — Kyiv Polytechnic Institute graduate and entrepreneur Mikhail Savchenko invested $100,000 for the construction.
