Colgate-Palmolive Q4 net sales up 6% to ₹1,146.6 crore

    MUMBAI : Toothpaste-maker Colgate-Palmolive India Ltd. (CPIL) reported 6% increase in net sales recording 1,146.6 crore for the fourth quarter of financial year 2019. The sales push comes on the back of strong domestic volume growth of 5%, the company claimed on Monday.

    The total income for Q4 rose to 1,165.7 crore from 1,099.97 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, filings with Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) showed. The overall volume growth for the fiscal year 2019 stood at 3%.

    The company recorded net profit of 197.59 crore, which stood at 188.77 crore in Q4 of FY2018. The total expenses reached 885.16 crore in quarter ended 31 March.

    “We are focused on our priorities of strengthening the core of our business and driving sustainable profitable growth. With strong investment in our advertising and brand building activities, we have delivered consistent domestic volume growth despite high competitive intensity and moderation in consumer demand. The EBITA margins are higher by 100bps (basis points)," said Issam Bachaalani, managing director, CPIL in a statement. A basis point is equivalent to 0.01%.

    CPIL advertising spent was up 8.86% in the fourth quarter of FY2019. The company expenses reached 156.27crore, in quarter ended 31 March, from 143.55 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

    The Board also declared a special interim dividend of 8 per share, which have face value of 1. “The dividend payout to the shareholders will be Rs. 262.3 Crore (inclusive of the dividend distribution tax of Rs. 44.7 Crore) and will be paid on or after June 20, 2019 to those shareholders whose names are on the Register of Members of the Company as on June 6, 2019. The Total Dividend would be Rs. 23 per share for the year 2018-19," said the company.

    CPIL gained 1.72% to close at Rs1,181.75 per share on Monday on the BSE, while the benchmark index, Sensex gained 0.63% to close at 39,683.29 points.
