P&G Hygiene and Health Care Q1 net profit down 5% at ₹136.8 crore

Consumer goods firm Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd. on Tuesday reported a 5% year-on-year decline in its September quarter profit to 136.8 crore due to an increase in advertising and promotional expenses.
The company, which is a part of P&G India and sells products under the brand Whisper - a feminine hygiene brand, and Vicks, recorded a 7.6% rise in its revenue from operations to ₹852.14 crore, it said in a filing to the BSE. Shares of the company closed 2.3% lower at ₹11,853 today.
During the reporting quarter, the company’s advertising and sales promotion expenses shot up by 25.5% to ₹104.4 crore from ₹83.2 crore recorded in the year-ago period. Total expenses rose 14.6% to ₹681.7 crore.
“In a challenging macro-economic environment our focus on raising the bar on superiority, improving productivity, and strengthening the organization culture has enabled us to deliver sustained growth during the first quarter," said Madhusudan Gopalan, managing director, Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd in a statement. “We will continue to remain focused on these strategies in line with our aim to drive balanced sales and profit growth."
