NEW DELHI : Bharti Airtel tested its first 5G private network at the Bosch Automotive Electronics India Pvt. Ltd facility in Bengaluru utilizing trial spectrum, where it has implemented two industrial grade use cases for quality improvement and operational efficiency at the plant.

Airtel’s on-premise 5G captive private network was built over the trial 5G spectrum allocated by the department of telecommunications (DoT).

In both the use cases, 5G technology such as mobile broadband and ultra-reliable low latency communications drove automated operations ensuring faster scale up and reduced downtimes, the company said on Friday.

“We believe that Airtel has the world class infrastructure, partnerships, and expertise to deliver captive private network solutions in any part of the country and to enterprises of any size," said Ajay Chitkara, director and chief executive officer, Airtel Business.

“The low latency and reliable connectivity provided by the Airtel private 5G network will significantly reduce IT wired infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency," said Subhash P., head of technical functions, Bosch Automotive Electronics India.

The private 5G network deployment at the Bosch facility was done first at the automatic optical inspection (AOI) unit used to inspect the product quality of surface mounted devices (SMDs) on printed circuit boards.

When PCBs are produced, SMDs are soldered and AOI determines product quality by optically checking the quality of bond.

With Airtel 5G, the Bosch manufacturing execution system was able to connect in real time with the unit and provide enforcement of specifications and business rules without human intervention.
