Norwegian healthcare startup Oivi has raised a pre-seed round of $500,000 (around ₹3.5 crore) from investors in Norway, the Netherlands, China and India, it said on Monday. The round was led by India-based venture capital investor Arali Ventures LLP, and included participation from marquee angel investors from India.
Oivi is headquartered in Norway with an Indian subsidiary and is focused on early detection of diabetic retinopathy, the most common cause of blindness among people with diabetes, it said in a statement.
This financing round will help further research and development, product development, early patient testing, and understanding the need in the global market, starting in India, the statement added.
Oivi was founded in 2017 by Anders Eikenes, Khaleel Udyawar, Jukka Alasirniö and Hans Einar Øverjordet, who, the company says, have vast experience in camera and advanced optics technology.
Oivi is developing a hand-held screening device that automates retinal image capture. This device requires minimal training and can be deployed in primary care, while the company's AI-based image diagnostics enable early referrals to retinal experts for treatment, the statement added.
