NEW DELHI: Asian Paints Ltd on Monday said it will suspend operations at its manufacturing and sales units as part of steps to ensure safety of its employees in the wake of rising cases of Covid-19 in the country.
The move is also aimed at ensuring compliance with various directives issued by Centre and state governments, the company said.
"In view of the lockdown in many of states across the country, operations in most of our locations are disrupted. The operations in all the manufacturing and most of the sales locations, including Home Improvement and Industrial business, will be shut down in the next twenty-four (24) hours. All the employees in our offices have been instructed to work from home," the company said in a filing to the stock exchanges.
The duration of this shutdown will depend upon further directives from the government. The company will continue to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate action as per regulatory guidance.
Over the last few days, some of India's top automakers have announced suspension of operations and shutting down of factories as the pandemic races through the country leaving a trail of infected people.
As of Monday, India had 415 confirmed cases, with six deaths. World over, the novel coronavirus has infected 339,041 people, with death toll at 14,705.
In addition to the Centre's efforts, states governments such as Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat have ordered a complete lockdown to prevent more transmissions. Kerala, Karnataka, Delhi have also put in place lockdown measures, allowing only essential services to function.
