India’s largest pizza chain, Domino’s, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd, on Monday suspended dine-in facility at its restaurants across the country to control potential transmission of coronavirus and maintain social distancing.

“In view of the emergent situation due to coronavirus (COVID-19), to support several initiatives taken by the Central and State Government authorities to control potential transmission of COVID-19 and to maintain social distancing, dine-in facility across all Domino’s Pizza restaurants stands suspended effective midnight today," Jubilant FoodWorks said in a BSE filing adding that the company will promote the takeaway and delivery channels to mitigate the impact.

Domino’s operates 1,325 pizza outlets in 282 cities across the country.

The move comes after several local governments have asked restaurants to discontinue dine-in facilities, and instead, function as takeaways joints, and facilitate home deliveries.

Several Indian states have enforced strict lockdowns as they try and contain the spread of the deadly pandemic.

Last week, Domino’s and McDonald's had launched contactless delivery as companies step up efforts to contain COVID-19 and its impact on their businesses.

"We wish to state that the health and safety of our employees and customers remains the highest priority and the company has put in place even more stringent hygiene and sanitation protocols across its restaurants, including zero contact delivery facility for Domino’s Pizza," Jubilant FoodWorks said.

The company has already moved to work from home policy for all its office employees.
