Deepinder Goyal has resigned as Director, Managing Director and CEO of Eternal, effective 1 February. The Board has recommended his name for appointment as Vice Chairman and Director, while Blinkit's Albinder Singh Dhindsa will replace Goyal as the CEO.
The company made the announcement on Wednesday, 21 January, alongside its financial results for the quarter ended 31 December 2025.
Deepinder Goyal will become Vice Chairman and Director after the approval of shareholders, and his term will be for five years.
Meanwhile, from 1 February onwards, current Blinkit CEO Albinder Singh Dhindsa will take charge as Chief Executive Officer and Key Managerial Personnel of Eternal.
Why is Deepinder Goyal stepping down?
In a post on X, Goyal explained the reason for the change in management.
‘Drawn to a set of new ideas,’ says Goyal
“Of late, I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation. These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal. If these ideas belonged inside Eternal's strategic scope, I would have pursued them within the company. They do not. Eternal deserves to remain focused and disciplined while exploring new areas of growth that are relevant to its current line of business,” his post read.
Deepinder Goyal co-founded Eternal, formerly known as Zomato, in 2008. He holds an integrated master’s degree in technology, mathematics, and computing from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Before founding Zomato, he worked at Bain & Company.
What changes in Eternal now?
As the Eternal CEO, Albinder Dhindsa will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company and other business decisions.
“The centre of gravity for operating decisions moves to Albi. As Group CEO, he will own day-to-day execution, operating priorities, and business decisions,” Goyal said.
Dhindsa is more than capable, says Goyal
Expressing confidence in Dhindsa's abilities, Goyal said, “Blinkit's journey from acquisition to breakeven happened under his leadership. He built the team, the culture, the supply chain, the operating rhythm. He has the DNA of a battle-hardened founder and his ability to execute far exceeds mine. He is more than capable of leading Eternal as Group CEO.”
