Elon Musk's Starlink restores services, ‘back up and running’ after hour-long outage, says company

Elon Musk's satellite internet provider, Starlink, was reported to have been down for an hour this morning, affecting 41,393 users.

Billionaire Elon Musk's satellite internet platform Starlink is back up and running after an outage affected thousands of users on May 29, as per a company statement.

Starlink, the satellite internet provider arm of Musk's SpaceX, was earlier this morning was reported to be down for users, according to Reuters. 

The service has reported over 240 outages during the last 24 hours, as per an alert from the Insider Paper.

Services Back Up

“The network issue has been fully resolved," Starlink said in a post on the Elon Musk-owned social media site X (formerly known as Twitter. 

Data from the outage tracking website Downdetector.com showed that as many as 41,393 users were affected by the Starlink outage on May 29 after services dropped for at least an hour.

Starlink, launched in 2019, owns close to 60 per cent of the nearly 7,500 satellites orbiting Earth, making it dominant in the satellite internet business segment. Other competitors include OneWeb, Telesat, Viasat and others.

Starlink Expansion Plans

Earlier this month, the SpaceX arm was in the news for crossing 30 lakh (3 million) users in 99 nations and its Asia expansion plans. 

Musk visited Indonesia on May 19 to launch the Starlink satellite internet service in the island nation — days after his surprise visit to China, which could possibly be followed by a trip to India's neighbour, Sri Lanka.

The tech billionaire was spotted discussing opportunities for Starlink services with Sri Lanka's President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali.

A month ago, the SpaceX founder was also scheduled to visit India and make big announcements during his trip. However, the tour was cancelled due to the Tesla CEO's “heavy obligations". \

Musk said that he plans to visit India later this year. The big revelations were supposed to be about the $2-3 billion electric vehicle factory in India and some developments related to Starlink.
