India reports 159 new covid cases
In the last 24 hours, around 602 vaccine doses were administeredThe number of active cases declined to 3,343

India recorded 159 new covid cases in the last 24 hours, the union health ministry said on Sunday. The covid cases have been drastically declining after the recent surge due to the XBB.1.16 Omicron variant.
The number of active cases declined to 3,343 and 531,880 deaths have been reported since the onset of the pandemic.
Health experts say that the number of hospital admissions has also come down with a lesser number of covid cases being reported. However, people who are elderly and have comorbid conditions are still vulnerable to catch the infection. Furthermore, doctors have recommended such people to take their booster dose if not done yet and follow covid appropriate behavior.
It may be noted that the XBB.1.16 is the covid-19 variant which was responsible for the surge in the last few months. In addition to this, scientists say that people in India have developed hybrid immunity (due to vaccination and natural infection), therefore, the present covid-19 variants will not be able cause hospitalization and severity as it is mild in nature.
Around 4.45 crore people recovered from the infection with 359 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The current recovery rate touching 98.81%.
Meanwhile, the union health ministry directed the state/UT government to follow a risk assessment-based approach to prevent and contain the infection. The health ministry advised to the state governments to examine the situation of covid-19 at micro level (district &sub-districts) and maintain focus on implementation of necessary measures for prompt and effective management of covid-19 duly ensuring effective compliance.
The government has asked the states to follow the five-fold strategy, i.e., Test-Track Treat-Vaccination strategy. Around 84,628 tests were conducted in a day taking the total number of tests to 92.93 crore.
Under the covid vaccination drive, more than 220.67 crore vaccine doses have been administered to the people across the country so far. In the last 24 hours, around 602 vaccine doses were administered.
