PremiumNew Delhi: A Pratt & Whitney (PW) powered Airbus A320neo aircraft operated by IndiGo was grounded on Wednesday due to engine snags, the airline said in a statement on Thursday.
IndiGo's flight 6E 19, which was flying from Mumbai to Singapore, had to be diverted to Nagpur due to a suspected oil leak, the airline said.
"The aircraft is currently undergoing technical inspection," the airline said, adding that an alternate aircraft was arranged for the passengers to resume their journey after a delay of five hours.
The latest incident comes amid heightened safety concerns, primarily due to a series of snags with PW powered Airbus A320 Neo planes, which make up for a large portion of IndiGo's fleet.
Meanwhile, Indian aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has intensified safety checks following a spate of incidents amongst airlines in India, though these have been classified as preventive steps. At present, the number of A320neo aircraft engines with potential safety problems has risen to more than 130 in India.
