Looking to woo Indian flyers with flexible fares: VietJet VP

VietJet’s direct flights between India and Vietnam will boost trade and tourism, says vice president Nguyen Thanh Son

NEW DELHI : Budget carrier VietJet Air will start operating direct flights connecting New Delhi with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from December. The airline, headquartered at Hanoi, aims to offer Indian travellers more options to travel to South-East Asian and East Asian countries. VietJet’s vice president Nguyen Thanh Son said in an interview that VietJet will rely on its strength and competitiveness in service offerings, fleet, capacity management, cost structure, and ability to offer new services to counter the strong competition. Edited excerpts:

What prompted VietJet to tap into the Indian market at this time?

India is a priority market and an important addition to our growing network globally. We are delighted to extend our services to India and launch direct flights between the two countries.

In line with our commitment to offer Indian travellers a seamless experience with great comfort, we are glad to introduce world-class offerings and winning hospitality on-board with advanced technology as well as modern aircraft.

Does the airline plan to start services from any Indian city other than New Delhi?

We aim to add more cities to our network across the country in the near future. However, our focus at present is on our new routes and services for New Delhi from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Which aircraft will you be using on the Hanoi-New Delhi, and Ho Chi Minh City-New Delhi routes?

VietJet operates an all-Airbus fleet and will use A320s with 180 seats for the India routes.

India’s largest domestic carrier, IndiGo, has also started services between India and Vietnam. How do you view the competition in this sector?

IndiGo will operate its non-stop daily flights between Kolkata and Hanoi, while VietJet will commence its operations from New Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

We aim to offer more flying opportunities by providing flexible, cost-saving ticket fares and diversified services to our customers. Our direct flights between New Delhi and Vietnam will definitely be a plus point in attracting travellers and aiding tourism growth for Vietnam and vice versa.

The direct flights from New Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi will allow travellers to experience Vietnam with cost-efficiency and a problem-free direct flying experience. The direct flights will further uplift trade and tourism opportunities between the countries.

Moreover, the new routes will connect India to VietJet’s wide flight network across South-East Asian and East Asian countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, and China, besides other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
