New Delhi: Mumbai-based The Wedding Brigade (TWB), a one-stop wedding content, e-commerce, and services platform, has announced its foray into the wedding banquet space in India. Its first banquet hall, Mogra Banquets, spans two floors in Goregaon in Mumbai, and the company plans to open another 20 banquet halls in the next 20 months. This expansion will allow TWB to tap into India's $50 billion wedding venue market.

Some of the benefits that TWB venues will offer include venues designed by renowned architects, access to the city’s popular caterers and 10+ unique wedding themes.

The decision to get into the banquet space follows a pre-Series A funding round in March 2019. Lead by the Japan-based Akatsuki Entertainment Technology Fund (AET Fund) and early-stage investment firm Blume Ventures, the funding round also saw participation from the Allana Group and existing angel investors.

Commenting on the announcement, Sanna Vohra, Founder of TWB said: “Venues (which includes rent, food, and decor) have traditionally been the most expensive component of any Indian wedding, comprising up to 65 percent of the overall budget. Despite this, the wedding banquets space for the middle class has historically been the least organized. Banquet halls that cater to the middle class frequently face a host of issues, from poor maintenance to limited dining and decor choices, forcing couples to choose from sub-par options. By entering this space, TWB hopes to plug this gap and bring our experience in the wedding industry into play."
