Tech major Wipro Ltd has appointed Subha Tatavarti as its chief technology officer (CTO). In her previous stint, Tatavarti led American retail giant Walmart Inc.’s product, technology development and commercialization of enterprise infrastructure, besides security, data science and edge platforms.
“Subha brings in over two decades of rich experience in the IT industry spanning across product development, delivery, life-cycle management, cloud computing services, data technology and analytics,” Wipro chief executive Thierry Delaporte said in an internal email announcing her appointment.
All technology teams, such as service transformation, topcoder, robotics, SVIC (Silicon Valley innovation center), technovation centre, open innovation and applied research, will report to her, Delaporte said.
Earlier, US-based Tatavarti headed the product, data and infrastructure platform of online payments firm PAYPAL to drive transformation through scalable, API-driven interoperable platforms, Delaporte said. “Her portfolio of products included machine learning, artificial intelligence (platforms powered by notebooks, data integration platform, data catalogue and data ALM.”
In her previous roles, she was instrumental in simplifying data and analytics infrastructure, besides pioneering CTO modernization and streamlining initiatives for the cloud, platforms, and frameworks (CPF). Tatavarti was also the co-founder and director of CliMetrics, Inc. She had stints in Abbott Laboratories, Fannie Mae and BearingPoint. She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from George Mason University.
Tatavarti’s appointment is among a series of leadership changes at Wipro since Delaporte took charge as the CEO and MD on 6 July. Earlier this year, Wipro had appointed Philippe Dintrans as senior vice president and head, domain and consulting for Wipro’s iDEAS (integrated digital, engineering, and application services) business. It has also appointed country heads for Brazil, Germany, Austria, Japan, Europe and Switzerland.
