Ritu Mehrotra, country manager of India, Sri Lanka and Maldives at Booking.com, 32, has been heading the South Asian region of the travel fare and lodging aggregator website since 2017. An alumna of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and the Harvard Business School, Mehrotra has worked with Pacific Global, Bristlecone and Zomato. She also tried her hand at entrepreneurship as the founder of e-commerce site Green Plate, which offers organic, healthy meals to corporates in the US. She’s based in Gurgaon.
I am an early riser and start my day by 6.15am. The first thing I do is think about something cool that I have done the day before and one important thing I would like to achieve on that day. After this, I cook breakfast for my son and spend some time with him before he goes off to school. Once he leaves, I read up on general news and check emails before heading for work. My breakfast is usually kale, amla, yoghurt, banana and any berry smoothie in the morning with one egg.
I like to do some form of workout even if I am travelling. I alternate between three days of yoga and three days extensive workout at the gym. Yoga brings flexibility and balance, and my near-term goal is to be able to do a handstand. The one thing I hate is mindless dieting. People diet without any understanding of their body type. As a consequence, they end up doing more harm to their body.
I need at least seven hours of sleep. As a habit, I read before going to bed. I travel a lot, almost every week, but I try to ensure that I am home over the weekend to spend time with my family. To combat jet lag, there is this trick that I do: I reset my watch according to the time in the country I am visiting as soon as I get onto the plane and, somehow, this helps me mentally be a part of that time zone. I guess it’s a state of mind.
How I Find My Zen
I love to cook and it’s my way of de-stressing. The good thing is that my son also enjoys cooking, so we spend time together and bond over food. I love to bake different kinds of healthy pie and enjoy cooking Thai food. I normally cook over the weekend.
